being “always online” is NOT exhausting

to put it nicely: i am chronically online. there’s no way around it. i love the internet. i think the internet is really fucking awesome. you can find everything and anything. and i know everyone loves to complain about being “always online” like it’s this soul-sucking black hole of endless notifications and doomscrolling. but i don’t think anyone misses when the internet wasn’t omnipresent. you're only lying to yourself, fueled by nostalgia.

when you’re always connected, you can reach opportunities easier. you can fuel your curiosity easier. there must be an article about whatever’s on your mind. bored? the internet has a solution. lonely? you can easily message a friend that’s across the country, or even the world. how's any of this a bad thing?

“people don’t talk with each other anymore”. wrong. people talk and communicate between each other more than ever before in the human history. only because it’s not “in person” doesn’t mean it isn’t real. so let’s talk about connection. living in a small town, like me, it’s easy to feel kinda stuck sometimes — nothing ever happens. it's boring. but with the internet, the world’s suddenly feels bigger. you can find people who just get you. people who like you, for you. and i think that’s beautiful.

and sure, people might act differently online and in real life, and you might not know how they really are. but the ability to be different is a part of the freedom. being online means you can be whoever you want, whenever you want. blog, lurk, create, rant. tell me, how’s this bad?

and yeah, sure, the internet isn’t perfect — there’s toxicity, misinformation, and sometimes it can feel overwhelming. but that’s just like real life, isn’t it? the internet is just an extension of our real world, for the better or for the worse. you have the power to choose what you consume, who you connect with, and how you show up online. the internet is only as exhausting and annoying as you make it out to be. maybe instead of fearing being “always online” we should just embrace it?

for me, being always online is honestly amazing. the world never feels out of reach. and every second, there’s something new to discover, learn, or laugh about. how's that a bad thing? being always online is to be free.
