i’ve seen the minecraft movie
just a few hours ago i’ve seen the minecraft movie! yep, that’s right! i’ve gone to see it even after i’ve been reluctant because it’s dubbed to my mother tongue, rather than subbed. i don’t like dub that much... i went because it’s part curiosity, part the memes, and part because i lowkey grew up with minecraft! i’ve played it more in the past, compared to the today, but i’ve played minecraft back since version 1.2.5! (that version released in 2012, jesus). this version is maybe older than some of the people follwing my blog!

i think ticket prices this cheap would’ve sent an american into a coma! just 300 dinars (serbian) and after rough conversion, this would come up to about $3 US.
i didn’t want to believe it’s that bad, so i decided to just watch it. this wasn’t a spontaneous decision, but rather me tagging along. but i used it as the opportunity to go see it. because i sure as hell would not go alone, lol.
i might be the minority but i have no problems with “children’s media”, i in fact, also like cartoons.
this dub is, however a little, to put it bluntly — stupid as fuck. like the nether was translated as вилајет (vilayet) and the overworld was translated as горњи свет (upper world), enderman were безпутници (wayfarers or wanderers). and chicken jockey? јахач кокошке (chicken rider). i think the vilayet is a subtle nod to how ottoman rule was a hell for balkan people, just like how those pigman are hell for the overworld. maybe a weird refference to make in a children’s movie, but oh well.
this scene is pure gold, and i can’t believe people were actually... decent? like i’ve heard people like to throw their popcorn at this scene? no one did here. how are we in a country westerners sees as bunch aggressors of more civilized than westerners? the cinema was half empty for some reason, even though it was friday afternoon. maybe that’s the reason the projection was without accidents? i don’t know.

i honestly expected more people. i’m not sure if people are embarrassed or scared to go see it. despite the cult following and memes, it seems like, here, the movie is mostly been watched by it’s intended target audience. i’ve seen very few teenagers or younger adults, this is very much different compared to what i’ve seen online. but it IS a children movie after all, but i expected to see more people of all ages. maybe i expected too much living in a country that still believes people can be “too old” for things, and is at times obsessed with being “mature”...
here’s a shitty, shaky picture from the projection. i didn’t want to be that person but i wanted at least one pic:

i’ll tell you one thing: if my dad who is in his 50s and knows nothing about minecraft enjoyed the movie, i don’t see why you wouldn’t...
my personal opinion? i think movie is very fun to watch. i had a great time!! the movie is not as bad as people may want you to think. i think people only hate it for the sake of it. not even for one second was i bored, and if given a chance, i would totally watch it again! i might not be the target audience, but i still enjoyed it very, very much. i don’t think the movie is lacking, unlike many other people. i’m not the target audience, and that’s fine. movie was still really fun to watch. i’m probably repeating myself here. the movie is not a masterpiece, but its far from being bad. honestly, i think it’s one of those films where you can just kick back and enjoy the ride. it’s got its flaws, sure, but the flaws do not hinder the experience. plus, the visuals? on point. the world-building was straight-up minecraft, even better so than in the game itself. the movie wasn’t the deepest thing ever, but it didn’t even try to be. sometimes you just need something that’s easy to vibe with, and this movie definitely delivered on that front.
i think a lot of the criticism comes from people expecting the movie to be more than what it is. it’s a minecraft movie, not a fucking oscar contender. it’s not going to blow your mind with deep plot twists or incredible character development, but it definitely knows how to entertain.
so all i can say is: go watch it!
