my em dash — not your ai

it’s been a while, so let’s talk about yet another thing that pisses me off..
you know how those random articles and social media posts that are like em dashes are “proof” of AI? and how no one even knows how to type it? what the fuck??

in most word processors -- will turn into an em dash, and on phone, all you need to do is long-hold - to get an em dash... look:


it really is that simple! and listen— i know everyone hates ai, but it doesn’t mean that if ai does it, humans never do. the witch hunting helps no one. you’ll only make people spiteful. and no, i wasn’t acussed of ai generating my posts, but i see it all over the internet. they all talk about how em dashes are “clear” proof of ai usage?? i don’t understand how do these people think this makes any sense? it’s punctuation mark like any other. it’s either a connector similar in function to semicolon, or it’s used as a pause— to better imitate spoken language. it likely has other usages too, language is flexible like that.

another thing that pisses me off is when people claim if it’s this -> ’ apostrophe, instead of this -> ', that it’s another sign of ai?? i’d like to remind you that many phones use ’ as a default, as well as many word processors as well. the only way you’d ever get ' is if you rawdog it in something like notepad or a code editor on a computer. but, if you try to give it any sort of structure, it’s very likely you’d have the “weird” apostrophe.

and sure, those might seem like miniscule things, because they kinda are. but i also now need to pay attention on how i phrase things? because some sentence structures just sound like ai? you know those two-part sentences “it’s not just about this, its about that”. yeah, ai loves to overuse parallelism. so if you ever find it useful, and if you god forbid so dare to use it, ig you are an ai model yourself now lol. i don’t like this whole “ai until proven human” mentality, the internet increasingly seems to have ( • ᴖ • ｡). i shouldn’t have to prove my humanity to anyone, because i am human lol.

hell, i even avoid using emoticons and emoji too much ;-;, i think this is my first post where i’ve dropped some... because guess fucking what? the bloody ai loves to drop them in its writing too, who would’ve fucking thought am i right? it feels like we have to dumb ourselves down, in order for our stuff to not read as ai generated, and if this trend continues, we’re cooked. we’re heading towards a very dystopian future with this one...
