i’ve written about similar topics before but they either got lost in one of my many domain-name/hosting switched or unwarranted site-wipes. but what can i do? i get moody sometimes lol. moodiness is a personality trait, unfortunately. and you’ve signed up for that, visiting this blog.
but let’s not get too far from the topic. it’s important to own your content, to own your domain and to carve your own space on the internet. especially nowadays, with those draconian laws getting into effect in many countries. because parents can’t be a fucking parents and leave games and social media to “babysit” their kids, more and more countries are starting to require ID verification to use online services. but this only applies to very large online platforms (VLOP). so your twitters or instagrams or your favorite image boards are affected. but you know after what else they can come after? neocities? free wordpress, and similar other free website services. due to social features, one may argue they are “platforms”. but you know what’s out of scope even if it gets thousands of visors? your own website under your own domain, hosted on your own server(s). because they have bigger fish to fry, your website, is going to be ignored.
and even if you’re in favor of ID verification and don’t see a problem with it, or aren’t worried it’ll ever include free site hosters. than at least use those free site hosters. there are reasons for you, too, to have your own space on the internet. when you reply on other platforms (social media) they dictate when and what can you say, and can remove all of your content without any notice. when they set the rules, youre a tennent. if you own your space, you’re a landlord. you can say anything, even if it’s deranged, offensive, problematic, or anything. as long as it isn’t illegal, you’re fine. but with “platforms” anything that isnt “clean” risks being censored. and some people will be like “you just wanna say slurs”. and maybe i fucking do, retard. im joking, mostly. i dont actually like slurs. but even if i say them that doesn’t necessarily make me a bad person, if I don’t have ill intentions. not everyone says bad words to be insulting, and you also fail to see the biggest picture. if you censor people you dislike, you’ll be happy unless the censorship comes for you. and things you believe in. because trust me, it will happen eventually. censorship is a slippery slope. well, when you own your own space there’s none of that.
because even if you’re perfectly what some would call “politically correct”, there are still reasons for you to have a website. everyone should have a website. even if you have no opinions that corporations dislike, you should still aim to give them as little of your data as possible. by posting content on a place you control, rather than a massive platform, you do not give corpos any data. actually owning your content should be reason enough.
and don’t let me get started with customization... the modern web is extremely sanitized. when you make an account on any of those platforms you’re trapped in a black jail of sadness. it’s just a profile picture, a name, and if you’re lucky a banner image, on a black background. when did we agree this is enough? when so much more can be done? why settle with less?
and absolutely, if you do end up making a website absolutely be fucking cringe. be cringe, be free. talk about your niches hobbies, talk about shit you love. be happy. we’ve had our brains rotted with phrases like “everything you post online stays there forever”, and even if this is partially, not fully correct, who cares? you need to be yourself. i get it though, some people might be afraid their family or friends will find their website. but chances of someone who “knows you” finding your website are probably less than 1%. there are billions of websites on the internet, with hundreds of thousands of new ones being published daily, while most people are only visiting top 10 to top 15 websites. unless you tell them yourself, or your website somehow becomes very popular. no one is finding it!
you also need to stop worrying about being “mature”, “professional”, “acting your age” and whatever the fuck else. of course, there is a time and space where that’s necessary. but that doesn’t need to be your 24/7. you need to learn how to have fun, and yes, be cringe. without caring what anyone else will think.
with all this being said, i hope i inspired at least one person to make their own website.

own your domain, your content & be cringe
