sometimes it’s better to just be alone. seriously. im sure some of you have followed the saga, and the drama. and the ban, that was in my opinion unjust. im far too old to have the time to care, or involve myself with drama. so this post is just my own reflection on the past few days, and the fact that maybe, the community of any kind, just isn’t for me...

to my surprise, i have actually received emails backing me up, which i won’t share; i have received comments on my own posts partially or fully agreeing with me, depending on the commenter, and i also have an entire blog post written by brennan, mentioning in passing what happened to me, so with all that being said, i genuinely don’t think i was the devil in this situation, at least not according to quite a few people!

i feel like it is necessary to say they i mean no actual shade to mod/admin team, they’re only humans. i hold no grudges or hatefulness towards any of them. but i am resentful and spiteful towards the website (forum) itself. but can you blame me? can you really? this brings us back to my self-host-anything-you-can mentality. every community, obviously has some rules. whether they’re fair or not, is up to the debate. i’m not talking about this forum necessarily, just in general: every platform decides it’s rules. which is normal. when you join a community, you have to follow their “laws”. but when you’re alone, YOU are the law. no one can ban you from your own website. people can disagree, but people can’t remove it.

communities are great in theory, but you must follow the conduct, and misconduct is judged on moderation’s own accord. which is, mostly, fair. a community might bring you traffic, but then you indirectly have to follow the community rules, if you’re going to share on there. if you’re solo, well, you’re your own boss. i wholeheartedly believe in self hosting and no one being able to tell you what to do.

i don’t think im necessarily a bad person, but im not necessarily a saint. most of us aren’t either as well.

the community is great but sometimes being alone is actually much better. when you are alone you don’t have to micromanage everything you say. i genuinely cannot control how others choose to moderate their own spaces, but that can’t stop me from expressing my own opinions on my own space. and to circle back to my forum ban, whether you think my ban is unjust or not, it was still within their right to remove me, just as it is within my right to post about it. we shouldn’t cry over spilled milk. my ban is one and done. and that’s fine. that won’t stop me from posting. and for the people that care, they do know where to find me.
