so for context, a certain person that may or may not have committed atrocities in the 90s, has died in the hague. and now the government itself wants to hold him a funeral with honors, and some people online celebrated his life. the combination of those two things have caused the anti-serb rhetoric to increase on the social media...

how is it my fault that the government wants to honor a person they see as a hero? how is it my fault some nationalists want to celebrate his life? “serbia doesn’t belong in europe and this is why” and other similar bullshit i’ve been reading the past few days online... how is it my fault what other people are doing? why shouldn’t we enter the EU? only because of handful of absolute fucking idiots? being an EU member state would drastically improve my personal life. it would improve the life of many other people. don’t i deserve a normal and dignified life? don’t my fellow citizens deserve a normal and dignified life? how is it our fault for the 90s? i wasn’t even born until 98. i could’ve innocently died in 99. how is the past MY FAULT? why should i be punished for what happened in the past? i just want the normal life, the one you already have. why is it so normalized to hate onto serbs because of wars? i didn’t kill your grandpa. i dont support the fact some soldier killed your grandpa. war is a bitch and its something that should have never happened. but how is it MY FAULT? i wasn’t even born back then. i didn’t elect those people.

this is clearly meant to be a jab. but it is true. it is nor our fault, but the governments'. i cannot effect what the government of the past, preset or future decides to do. so how am i complicit? i can not support the government all i want but your guys' thorn in the eye is simply because i am serbian. its your guys' hatred that is pushing people to the other side. you guys give us no dignity and act like a normal civilian is at fault for what is happening.

some of us want normal and dignified life, yet you’re not letting us, because some of our fellows actually are in favor of the atrocities of the past. how do you think its fair to blanket-judge everyone of certain nation, just because how some individuals have acted? this isn’t so “peace, love and prosperity” of you. you’re going against your own ideals, simply to hate onto serbs. hypocrites.



it gets worse when actual eu politicians are working towards us not being accepted. like why? why shouldn’t we be a part of european world? we are already in europe, being an eu member is next logical step. and after that, maybe even nato membership, despite what happened in the 90s. we need to go further, we deserve prosperity, we shouldn’t be stuck in the past. but it feels like you people want us to be stuck in the past.
