i have been watching eurovision every year, for probably over 20 years or so! i’ve been watching (almost) every single one ever since i was a child, and its something very special to me. once a year the entire europe unites for 3 days to party, dance a sing. for an example, just look at how fun this is!!
only few seconds cos i dont wanna have problems w copyright lol.
however, this year many countries have withdrawn because certain genocidal state participates, i’m sure you can infer which one. and many people online believe you should also boycott the eurovision too. but lets be honest? me not watching will not change the situation, me not watching will not stop the wars, or save lives. the performative activism changes nothing. never will, never did. if you truly wanted for something to happen, you’d have to do something in real life, and not, not watching a show. and besides, activism isn’t for everyone.
i’m not disregarding human lives, far from that, and i agree that if russia was banned, they should have been too. but again, me not watching will not end people’s suffering. i can’t do anything to change the situation personally. and me not watching absolutely will not change the situation.
eurovision is a big part of my life, i’m always excited and hyped for it, and it is one of my favorite times of the year. i shouldn’t give up the small things that makes me happy, for some online points. by “boycotting”, that’s all you’re doing -- getting some online points. it doesn’t stop the war, the suffering, the genocide.
“but they get the money” i don’t vote. never did. never will. i think televoting is a waste of money anyways. when i watch online, i have an adblocker lol. if i watch on the TV, the advertisement on there go to the TV station, not necessarily eurovision.
i’ve always loved eurovision. always will. and while i am not necessarily apolitical, i am not an activist, nor do i partake in activism. and i dont think me watching something i’ve watched since very early childhood is immoral. anyone who says so is wrong in my opinion. me watching or me not watching, outcome stays the same. it won’t change anything.
and let’s be honest, if you’re boycotting, your friends that “aren’t watching”, most likely are, they’re just telling you they aren’t so they won’t have a beef with you. for most europeans the eurovision is a tradition at this point. traditions hardly change. i do agree thought, that country shouldn’t participate, even if they weren’t, you know... because they aren’t even european.
this is my take. i love eurovision and i don’t really care what people online think. eurovision is very special to me. i do not have any arguments other than i simply want to watch it, and that i think me not watching it wont anything in the world.

i'm sorry, but i love eurovision

of course i can't stop you from watching it and you dont finance them.
but the boycott isn't just because it was made by bad people. we can't stop using stuff made by bad people, but we can target a single event to take away its cultural power, like it was done in the coutries that no longer broadcast it, which tangibly hurts their finance, which goes further that a single person's boycott would
have a good weekend

see, that is where it's different: whole COUNTRIES, as in the broadcasters can do something, that is valid, and understandable why they are boycotting. however, i still think individuals cannot do anything. you or me not watching doesn't get anywhere. but if a whole country decides to not participate/finance/broadcast it, than maybe something, in fact can happen for the better.

I've been watching Eurovision every year since probably 2009 O_O I got SO much good music on my playlists from it! My main reason for watching was because I LOVE languages and loved it when countries sang in their own language, but most of them just do English nowadays. :( Still a lot of good songs though, even in English.
Balkan, Balkan Balkan! Ovo je Balkan~ Come on! xD

I'm American, so I didn't grow up watching Eurovision, but the one year (2023) I did watch, I loved it! I really enjoy how everyone performing looks like they're just having a blast :) I'll definitely watch this year's EV this weekend! As for the boycotting, I agree. If we're going to stop using everything that was created by bad people, we'd probably end up using nothing but sticks and stones :p
